Darin and Greg Bresnitz wish failure was taught in schools

Names: Darin and Greg Bresnitz
Age: 28
Hometown: Bala Cynwyd, PA
Job description: DJs, producers for IFC series Dinner with the Band
Upcoming projects: Summer BBQ series at Hope Lounge and remixes under the the name Punches / Tête-À-Tête

Describe your current state of mind.

Greg: Since we just shot the show I’m preloaded; I do all of the music booking and the background [and] I’m pretty much done. I’m reconnecting with people, feeling accomplished and in a very relaxed state of being.

Darin: Relaxed and accomplished. We’ve been putting in a different type of 12-hour day - productive and not one full of anguish.

What’s the best conversation that you’ve had?

Greg: The most honest conversation that I’ve had was with my ex-girlfriend this summer.

Darin: Which one?

Greg: [laughs] It was with someone who I’ve known for a very long time who pretty much ripped me up but in a good way. That was something I was ready to hear. I think that when you talk to best friends or ex-lovers you’re usually in a very defensive place and the things that she said were pretty insightful. And also anytime I talk to my mom about relationships those are always really good because they’re always kind of funny.

Darin: Greg and I have a lot of conversation. We talk so much being twin brothers, and business and DJ partners. We are constantly analyzing, probably to the point of annoyance to others: Can we do it better? Are we wrong? Are we right?

Greg: I think one of the better conversations was a fight through that dinner we had five years ago. We had this infamous turning point in our family. I was still on the events track. I don’t think our parents knew what we were doing. They were like, "What’s your five-year plan? What are you doing? What is event planning?"

Jeff Stark's keyword is 'supercore'

Upcoming projects: Empire Drive-In, an installation of a drive-in theater using wrecked cars and salvaged materials, in collaboration with Todd Chandler, for 2010 01SJBiennial.

Describe your current state of mind.

Fried, I had a super late night bartending at Rubulad and then I slept about two hours and got up to do auditions all day today so I’m a little dizzy.

What artwork hangs in your house?

I have several pieces from my oldest friend, Shaun Acton, a lot of pieces by the artist Swoon that were gifts and trades, photographs that I’ve had since San Francisco, and prints that were on the cover of ‘zines that I did in the early ‘90s. In the last two years I’ve bought two pieces of work for the first time, which is actually really funny to me - to be a broke artist and to be figuring out how to pay for work. I bought a work by Kelie Bowman and another from Cinders Gallery in an auction last weekend. It's by Allyson Melberg, and it's a drawing of a person with FIVE eyes. I have a bunch of stuff by Lisa Bennett, who is from Harrisburg, and little drawings by Angela Washko. I’m also trying to negotiate work from Conrad Carlson from Black Label (DJ Dirty Finger). He’s an amazing artist who makes cardboard collages.

What’s the most that you’ve ever paid for a work of art?

$150.
